Honorable Susan A. Connors, New Haven
Judge Susan A. Connors is a Connecticut native, born and raised in Middletown. She graduated from the University of Connecticut with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 1984 and the University of Connecticut School of Law with a Juris Doctor with honors in 1991.
Judge Connors began practicing with the law firm of Schatz & Schatz, Ribicoff & Kotkin in 1991 where she remained until 1995 when she and her partners formed their own practice, Krevolin, Roth & Connors, LLC. She was a trial attorney whose practice initially had an emphasis in commercial litigation and later in personal injury and family law matters.
Judge Connors was nominated to the Superior Court Bench by Governor M. Jodi Rell in March of 2010. Since her appointment to the bench, Judge Connors has been assigned to G.A.23 in the New Haven Judicial District where she has presided over the Domestic Violence Docket, criminal trials and general GA matters.
Judge Connors has volunteered her time and service to various organizations, boards and commissions. In 2003 she received the Secretary of State’s Public Service Award. She has served as Chairperson of the Home Inspection Licensing Board for the State of Connecticut, President of the Hartford Association of Woman Attorneys and as a board member of the Harbor Management Commission for the Town of Old Lyme. She has also been a member of various professional and civic organizations.
Honorable Susan B. Handy, Middletown
Judge Handy received her B.A. from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1971. From 1971 to 1978 she taught English, speech and drama, first at Barnstable High School in Hyannis, Massachusetts and then at New London High School in Connecticut.
In 1980 she received her J.D. from the University of Connecticut School of Law. After graduating from law school, she joined the law firm of Conway, Londregan, Leuba, McNamara & Sussler in the Mystic office. In 1984 she was named a partner in that firm and remained in private practice until early 1993, when she was nominated and confirmed as a Judge of the Superior Court.
Judge Handy currently is the Presiding Judge for criminal matters in the New London Judicial District. She serves as a member of the Criminal Jury Instruction Committee, co-chairs the Events Subcommittee of the Public Trust Commission, is the chair of the External Affairs Advisory Board, and serves on the faculty for the education of newly appointed judges and often is part of the CJI teaching faculty. She has served as the Chief Administrative Judge of Criminal, the Administrative Judge of the New London Judicial District, and is a past member of the Rules Committee, the Judicial Review Committee and the Executive Committee.
Honorable Maureen M. Keegan, Milford
Judge Keegan has had a varied career in the legal system. During summer vacations from college, she worked as a sheriff in the Stamford judicial district. After graduating magna cum laude from the University of Richmond, she worked for two years as a legal secretary in the law firm then known as Duel & Holland in Greenwich. Judge Keegan graduated from UConn School of Law in 1988 and served as an Appellate Court law clerk to the Hon. John J. Daly. Following her clerkship, she began a seventeen year career as a state prosecutor. Judge Keegan tried numerous cases while at the Waterbury State’s Attorney’s Office, including five capital felony cases. Her final two years as a prosecutor were spent as an Executive Assistant State’s Attorney in the Chief State’s Attorney’s Office. There she handled legislative matters for the Division of Criminal Justice, was a member of the Cold Case squad and helped to establish a statewide Case Presentation Unit.
Appointed to the bench in 2006, Judge Keegan has been assigned to the courts in Norwalk, New Haven, Bridgeport and Milford, presiding over civil and criminal trials.
