COURSE OVERVIEW:

Presented by lawyers for lawyers, this program will focus on providing valuable instruction, practical guides, checklists and risk control and ethical recommendations to help lawyers safely navigate today's complex legal environment and assist them in minimizing professional liability risk.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  • Identify risks of practicing in the area of business transactions and learn relevant and ethical risk control techniques to manage and minimize professional liability and ethical risks.
  • Identify risks of practicing in the area of civil litigation and the forming and ending of the attorney-client relationship and learn relevant and ethical risk control techniques, including the use of sample engagement letters, disengagement letters, non-engagement letters and conflict waivers.
  • Identify emerging technology risks in the practice of law and learn practical and ethical techniques and instruction on establishing a document retention policy for data stored in the "cloud", safely and ethically utilizing social media in the practice of law, and establishing firm networks to manage client privacy and confidentiality in the digital age and comply with all applicable rules of professional conduct.
  • Identify practice errors when they occur and learn how to comply with ethical and professional obligations. Identify how and when to notify clients, and what to tell them. Learn relevant risk control techniques to manage and minimize professional liability and ethical risks.

PROGRAM FEE: $30

Those who attend will  earn  up to a 7.5% PREMIUM CREDIT  for 3 years on professional liability insurance offered through the CTLA exclusively endorsed program underwritten by CNA.
