Connecticut Burns Care Foundation
Since 1978, The Connecticut Burns Care Foundation has worked to prevent burn injuries, improve burn wound care and support survivors of burn traumas. The life-long healing journey after a burn trauma is often lonely, as well as emotionally and physically painful. Simple childhood activities – like pool parties with friends, sleepovers, or summer camp – are not available for a child with severe scars.
The Foundation's programs include The Arthur C. Luf Children's Burn Camp, where young burn survivors come together at a residential summer camp for fun, peer support and to just be a kid. For 30 years, this unique Camp has given brave survivors the opportunity to confront their limitations, to make true friends, and to build confidence to tackle challenges that their injuries present.
These photos capture much of CBCF's mission: the determination of facing challenges, the support within grasp when needed, and the collective joy when a survivor reaches their life goals.
